Why I hoop.

I keep getting asked why I hoop, so this is why.

I don’t hoop because it’s a good workout. I don’t hoop to be better than anyone else. I don’t hoop to show off.

I hoop because it’s fun. I hoop because it’s unusual. I hoop because the first time I ever danced with a hoop was the first time I’d ever felt anything but awkward while dancing. I hoop because there are no rules. I hoop because it’s not a competition. I hoop because it makes people want to talk to me. I hoop because I’m a weird kid, and I deserve some weird hobbies. I hoop because making hoops is fun. I hoop because it’s an escape.

But above all, I hoop because when I’m hooping, there’s nothing to tell me that I’m not beautiful. When I hoop I’m reminded that I’m a special, lovely creature that can still do amazing things.
