August 2011
My boyfriend is pretty much the best.
One of his relatives was giving away massive amounts of fresh veggies from their farm at their family reunion yesterday, and he made sure to get extras so he could give me some. So I now have a ton of organic bell peppers, banana peppers, and corn to eat.
I couldn’t talk him into running with me at all though. And then he wouldn’t let me lay on his bed after I ran because I was...
64 minutes!
That means 8 miles if I was going at 8:00 pace, 8.5 if I was going 7:30. Frankly I have no idea how fast I was going, because as we all know, I’m terrible with pacing. I’m in a great mood now.

I'm going to run for 60 minutes tomorrow.
I’ve never ran for that long in my entire life. I’m far too impatient. But my last two long runs were 51 minutes and 52 minutes, so I can do 10 or so more than that. I’m going to try and talk my boyfriend into doing at least a couple of miles with me.
Also, want to follow me on twitter?

I think it's funny that for all of my high school...
But now that I’m about to move 2 hours away, everyone and their grandmother is like,”OMG we have to hang out before you leave!”
And I’m just like, screw you guys, I’m only hanging out with my real friends.
School shopping was a success.
I got so much stuff that I needed, including two plants named Shalane Flanagan and Kara Goucher (I always name plants after athletes), a stuffed animal that’s actually a broccoli-man, a 37 oz water bottle, and a fantastic Nike pullover.
And Marrissa and I pretty much got matching everything, it’s probably a good thing that we’re not going to the same school or else people would...
Plan for tomorrow:
Wake up at 7:30, lift, eat breakfast, take a shower, then shopping with Marrissa and my mom allll day. I’m excited!

Adventures in coconut cream pie
We dug into the pie before I thought that I should probably take a picture of its loveliness, so here’s a drawing and a description instead, just use your imagination.
Anyway, this is a recipe from hungry girl, adapted to suit what we had in the house.
Crust:
1 cup fiber one original cereal
1 ice cream cone
1/4 cup light margerine
3 tablespoons granulated stevia
Pie:
1 1/2...

Today, I scrapped my scheduled 4.25 mile tempo...
And I ran 3 miles, just because I love to run.
When I wanted to slow down, I slowed down. When I wanted to challenge myself to maintain race pace up a hill, I did that. I even stopped for a few seconds once to watch a baby horse play with its mom. The last hundred yards I sprinted like it was the most important race of my life.
Was it a particularly fast run? No. Was it a long run? Not at all....
"Of course you miss me. I treat you like...
My best friend is so modest.
Marrissa and I decided to make a different dessert...
Because we did not make enough desserts together this summer. Tonight’s menu: Coconut cream pie.
Tomorrow: Rainbow mini cupcakes.
Life is good.
I just started a new private blog.
I’m only going to give the password to people that I feel like I know at least a little bit. It details some of what’s been going on in my life, and I’d like to share it with some people, just not everyone yet.
I have less than 3 weeks to create a beautiful...
…That’s a lot of space to fill up and not a lot of time. But I want to give it to my boyfriend before I leave for school, so from now on that’s what I’m doing with my evenings.
And I’m mostly just posting this to keep myself accountable.
Marrissa and I just made single serving chocolate...
And they were awesome. Now I’m just eating chocolate chips because hey, chocolate.
And my female hormones are being a serious bitch.
Just got the schedule for my first week of soccer...
Practice 6-8:30am and 2-4:30pm. I’m pretty much expecting this to be the most exhausting and physically demanding week of my entire life, and I might be a little disappointed if it isn’t.
Swollen ligaments suck.
Especially because you CAN run through the pain without actually hurting yourself, so of course I do, but then it just hurts worse and worse…
Diving right back into my routine after a week off
Today I did my soccer workout (which increased drastically in difficulty this week), ab workout for soccer, lifting, and my own ab workout. And there’s still a 3 mile run on the agenda.
So far I feel good, hoping to stay this way.

Best pancakes ever?
I think so, although this picture is not so attractive. Also, excuse the fact that the bottom one is burned. It’s early.
Apple cinnamon pancakes
1/2 cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt (I used chobani)
1/2 cup coarse bran
1/2 cup egg whites
1 small apple (I used golden delicious)
3/4 tsp baking powder
2-3g cinnamon
Combine the yogurt, bran, baking powder, and cinnamon in a bowl. Finely...

Well that was fantastic.
The weather listened to me, it was down to 85 by the time I started my run, and around 80 when I finished it. I ran for 51 minutes, no idea how far (I was aimlessly wandering my boyfriend’s neighbourhood), but it made me feel much better about the fact that I didn’t get any running in this past week.
Now I’m going to go eat a poached egg and some raw carrots, because long runs...
Dear temperature,
Please drop drastically in the next two hours, because I’m genuinely scared of dying.
Thanks bunches! Carly

I just threw on the lightest dress I own and put...
And my brother immediately said,”I like that dress!” and my mom said,”You look beautiful!”
I have the sweetest family ever.

Home, finally.
I want to run so badly, but it’s so hot that it would probably be dangerous to run right now, so I’ll have to just do some yoga in the cool basement later and save my run for tomorrow morning.
Camp was amazing. I won’t bother writing a whole long post about everything that happened, because I know you don’t actually care, but it was fantastic. I got to spend loads of time...
Lights out is at midnight
…I crawl into my bed from a hike at 2:40. Win.
Designated nap time is the best time of camp.
After football and blind volleyball, I’m pretty beat. I love this place.
Church camp makes me feel like a celebrity
This is like the one week a year where people actually think I’m cool. It’s nice.
So there's a 5k in Morgantown on Saturday
Same course as the one I ran in April.
I might run it, just for kicks. And because Jacob and my dad both said they’d run it with me. And because I’m pissed at my time from the last race and want to smash it. But I don’t know how much I’m going to be able to run this week so setting a PR may be unrealistic. Still though, races are funfunfun.
I won't be on much (if at all) until Friday
I’m heading to church camp today. I’m super excited. Church camp has been the highlight of my year for as long as I can remember.
Some conversations that made me smile today.
Dad: You should declare Clara Grandt to be your arch nemesis. Me: Dad, Clara Grandt is a professional runner. She ran a 2:29 at the Boston marathon this year. Dad: I don’t care. You’ll catch up.
—-
Jordan: I’m so tired. Me: Me too. I got up at 6:09 today. Jordan: That’s what time I got up yesterday. Me: For real? 6:09? Jordan: Yeah. Guess we have the same alarm...
So I'm thinking that when I get to school
I’ll start posting my intake everyday (or at least fairly often). I figure that trying to eat well while living in a dorm will certainly be an adventure, so posting about it will keep me accountable and hopefully demonstrate that it can indeed be done :)

So the race today was pretty awesome
I ran it in roughly 19:20, Jacob got 23:40, and my dad ran just under 26. They met their goals, I did not meet my (admittedly unrealistic) goal of setting a PR (18:41 happened on a completely flat and straight course, today’s course had 4 significant hills and 14 turns). However, I was slightly consoled by the fact that I still won. I think the reason I was so slow was because I was...

Sleep time!
Well, laying out clothes and brushing my teeth time at least. I’m a little jittery for sleep. I think my boyfriend and his mom are coming to see me race in the morning, so I’m even more nervous than usual.
Anyway, goodnight my dears <3
Rest days are so hard.
I may go out and kick a soccer ball around a bit to loosen my legs up before my ice bath/keep myself sane.
But I know that resting today is important, so I can be fresh for tomorrow. I’msoexcited.
Heading to the movie theater with Jake and...
Marrissa and I are wearing the Deathly Hallows shirts I made. We so cool.
I have officially been cleared by the NCAA for...
So freaking relieved. That process was hell.

In the days leading up to a race, I always freak...
I think to myself,”Oh shit, I’m not actually a good runner. How could I be a good runner? I know nothing about running. My first 5k was a fluke. It was a perfectly flat course and I felt no pressure, of course I ran fast. My 10k was a fluke too, just because I’m in good shape doesn’t make me fast. I’m going to disappoint everyone.”
So today, when I had that...

Tuesdays are my interval workout days.
I love Tuesdays. About to go do 4.3 miles of HIIT.
Then tomorrow, I’m going to do 4.4 miles at an easy pace (or not, since I suck at pacing), Thursday I’m going to do 3 miles as hard as I can, and Friday I’m going to rest and take an ice bath. Then it’s race time on Saturdayyy :)
My dad and I are going to go run the course for...
Preparing to break some PRs this weekend, hopefully :)

I really need to get better at gauging my pace.
I just did my long run, 7.15 miles, in 51:05. That’s a 7:08 pace when I thought I was running 8:00-ish. Apparently my internal pace gauge is off by about a minute.
I’ll certainly never be a rabbit.
Excited for my long run today.
I’m just going to go for 7-8 miles, at about an 8-8:30 pace. Lots of time to think and relax :)
Jake and Marrissa and I are assembling lego armies
Mine is probably the best, because it includes a skeleton with a robot leg riding a shark, three black wizards, a dragon, R2D2, and a ghost.
But Marrissa’s has Harry Potter, and me with a lightsaber, sooo that’s pretty awesome too.
And Jake’s has a giant robot in the middle.
I can’t believe we’re legally considered adults.
My mantras for Saturday's race:
If I want to run faster, I can run faster.
The faster I run, the faster I’m done.
I can endure anything for 18 minutes.
In the words of Marrissa, there’s plenty of time to puke or faint at the finish line.
I think I'm going to send a "thank you" email to...
For introducing me to running.
For always moving our practices to the indoor track when the fields were closed for rain.
For making me run 200s for the first time in my life.
For noticing that I was fast.
For making me say “If it was easy, we wouldn’t be doing it.” when I felt like I couldn’t do it anymore.
For telling me that I could run a 5k in under 20 minutes if I...

Just made whole wheat pasta with sun dried tomato...
And it was gooood. And the best part is that the pesto was full of tomatoes, basil, and parsley that I picked from our garden. I’m going to miss cooking and baking so much when I’m at school this fall.
